Forge Your Strength Through Every Storm
Founder & Head Coach
Look, I'll be straight with you - this place wasn't born from some fancy business plan or corporate vision. It came from years of frustration.
Back in 2018, I was training athletes out of a cramped garage space in East Van. We had maybe three barbells, some mismatched plates, and a pull-up rig I welded myself. But you know what? Those athletes were getting stronger, faster, and tougher than anyone I'd seen coming out of the big box gyms.
The thing is, I'd spent a decade competing in Olympic lifting and CrossFit competitions across Canada. I'd trained under some incredible coaches and some terrible ones. I learned what actually works versus what just looks good on Instagram. When you're pulling heavy weight or pushing through your eighth round of intervals, all that motivational poster nonsense falls away - you need real programming, solid technique, and a community that won't let you quit on yourself.
So yeah, we started small. Word spread through the Vancouver athletic community, and before I knew it, we had high school athletes training alongside office workers, weekend warriors next to semi-pro fighters. Everyone pushing each other, no egos, just work.
In 2020, we moved into our current spot on Forge Street - kinda felt like fate with that name, right? We built this place from the ground up, literally. I wanted high ceilings for rope climbs, proper lifting platforms that could handle dropped weight, and enough space so you're not dodging kettlebells during a packed class.
Our mission's simple: We're here to make you stronger, period. Not just your muscles - your mind, your resilience, your ability to push through when everything's telling you to stop. Vancouver weather's gonna throw rain and storms at you year-round. We'll teach you to thrive in it.
Every coach here's earned their stripes. We don't hire based on looks or follower counts - we want people who know their stuff and genuinely care about your progress.
Lead HIIT & Conditioning Coach
Sarah doesn't mess around with her conditioning classes. Former varsity track athlete who switched to functional training after dealing with overuse injuries. She's got this way of pushing you right to your edge without breaking you. Been with us since day one and honestly can't imagine this place without her energy.
Olympic Weightlifting Coach
Dave's the guy you want when you're trying to nail that snatch technique. Competed at nationals three times, coached junior athletes to provincial records. He's patient as hell with beginners but won't let bad habits slide. If your third pull's sloppy, he'll spot it from across the gym. Joined us in 2021 and built our Olympic lifting program from scratch.
Athletic Performance Specialist
Jenna's our secret weapon for athletes looking to level up their game. Works with everyone from hockey players to MMA fighters. She's got a kinesiology degree but more importantly, she understands how different sports demand different training approaches. Super analytical but keeps things fun. She'll have you doing single-leg plyometrics you didn't know existed.
Recovery & Mobility Coach
Alex keeps everyone moving properly and recovering smart. Used to work in physiotherapy before realizing they wanted to help people prevent injuries rather than just rehab them. Runs our mobility sessions and honestly, they're the reason half our members can still squat deep after years of training. Don't skip their classes if you value your joints.
Personal Training & Nutrition
Rachel handles most of our one-on-one clients and nutrition coaching. She gets that everyone's got different goals and different lives. No cookie-cutter meal plans here - she'll actually work with your schedule, your budget, and your food preferences. Former competitive bodybuilder who realized helping regular people get strong was more fulfilling than stage life.
Group Fitness Instructor
Tyler's the most high-energy person you'll meet. His classes are intense but somehow fun - he's got that rare ability to push people hard while keeping the vibe positive. Used to be a firefighter, so he knows a thing or two about functional fitness under pressure. Members either love him or they're terrified of his burpee variations. Usually both.
Seven years of growth, challenges, and victories. Here's how we got here.
Started training athletes out of a 600 sq ft garage space. Five members, three barbells, and a dream. We didn't have air conditioning or proper heating, but nobody complained - they were too busy getting strong.
Took four athletes to the BC Provincial CrossFit competition. We placed 12th overall but more importantly, we proved that training smart beats training fancy. That bronze medal in the team event still hangs in our office.
Hit 35 members and literally ran out of space. Had to split into morning and evening crews. Started seriously looking for a bigger location. Also realized we needed more coaches - I was teaching 6 classes a day and burning out fast.
Signed the lease on Forge Street literally two weeks before lockdowns hit. Talk about timing. Spent three months doing virtual classes from an empty gym while we finished renovations. Our members stuck with us through it all - that loyalty meant everything.
Brought Dave on board and launched our dedicated Olympic weightlifting program. Built proper lifting platforms, got competition-grade bars and bumpers. Now we've got lifters competing at provincials every year. One of our athletes hit a qualifying total for nationals last year.
Crossed the 150-member mark and it felt surreal. We threw a big community BBQ, ran a charity workout, and raised over $5k for local youth sports programs. Added evening recovery sessions because people kept asking for them. The community we built here is something special.
Jenna came on board and we launched our athletic performance program. Now we're training high school athletes, weekend warriors prepping for ski season, and even a few semi-pro hockey players. Added sleds, more plyometric equipment, and a proper speed track area.
200+ members, six incredible coaches, and a facility we're genuinely proud of. We're expanding our mobility and recovery offerings, planning our first annual competition, and just trying to keep doing what works - helping people get stronger and more resilient, one workout at a time.
